Making a Faux Patina on Clay
This class will explore two different methods for doing a patina on a fired clay sculpture without using glaze. Glaze is thick and tends to diminish detail on certain types of sculptures especially portraits. It is also difficult to control. Students will start by using sandpaper to refine the sculpture surface. Students will then learn how to use acrylic paint applied in thin transparent coats to resemble patinated bronze. Alternatively, students may choose to use ground pastel pigment mixed with wax applied in in thin transparent coats to resemble either stone or patinated bronze. During this exercise, we will again revisit possible mounting options if necessary
Pre-Registration is required.
