Beginner and Intermediate Wheel Skills
This eight-week wheel pottery class is suitable for both beginners and intermediate students who want to build confidence and improve their skills on the pottery wheel. Whether you’ve never touched clay before or you already have some experience, this class will guide you step-by-step through the process of creating functional and decorative ceramic pieces.
Students will learn the fundamentals of wheel throwing, including centering clay, opening, pulling walls, making cylinders, and trimming. As the course progresses, intermediate techniques such as making bowls, mugs, and small plates will be introduced, along with surface decoration methods like carving, slip decoration, and basic glazing techniques. Intermediate students will be encouraged to refine their forms, improve consistency, and explore more complex shapes.
Each class includes demonstrations, guided practice time, and individual instruction to help students develop at their own pace. By the end of the eight weeks, students will have completed several finished pieces and gained a strong understanding of the pottery process from raw clay to finished, glazed work.
