Kate Donovan was born and raised in a small town in Connecticut. Upon graduating high school she sold garments she had designed and sewn at festivals and concerts across the country. She returned to school to received her AAS in Photography from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City, before settling in Asheville, NC for 20 years. She received her BFA in Ceramics from the University of North Carolina, Asheville, and worked under the artist Michael Sherrill at his company MudTools for 3 years. She relocated to Vero Beach in 2022 to be closer to family and could not be happier.

Bringing 15 years of ceramic experience, she has studied with Magdalene Odundo, Paul S. Briggs, and Megan Wolfe, amongst others. Her work has been carried at MudFire in Decatur, Ga and The Gallery at Flat Rock in Western North Carolina.

She is continuously experimenting in her studio practice and loves to share the knowledge she has gained with others. Her work is inspired by the alchemical and meditative nature of ceramics and film photography. When not behind the wheel or the lens, she can be found gardening, and spending time with her family and 16 year old dog, Margaret.
